Name and Place

John Taggart moved to the Illinois territory in 1807 and settled at the Irish Settlement, in the part of the county north of Chester. John for some years remained in the neighborhood of Kaskaskia. After the conclusion of the war, he settled on the farm nine miles north of Chester, on which he afterward lived many years.
