Thomas moved to the Illinois territory in 1802 with his father, William Roberts, and settled at the Irish Settlement near Ellis Grove. Thomas died 21 Jan 1858 at Ellis Grove, Illinois.

Daniel was the last registrar of the land office at Kaskaskia, receiving his appointment in 1853, and continuing in the office until its removal to Springfield.

For many years he acted as justice of the peace. He was a member of the county commissioner's court from 1828 to 1831.
