Name and Place
Robert Foster moved to the Illinois territory in 1808 and settled at the Irish Settlement. Foster first settled near the Kaskaskia, to the west of Ellis Grove, and then on Plum creek, where he erected a horse mill and steam distillery. These conveniences caused the influx of other settlers to the neighborhood, and Foster's mill became a place of frequent resort. Musters and other public gatherings were held here. He died in 1831.
