Name and Place

William Nelson moved to the Illinois territory in 1812 and settled on Horse creek, some three miles south of the present town of Red Bud. He built a distillery, and became a leading man in that part of the county. He traveled to Illinois territory with Hugh Leslie

Origins

William was a native of Ireland, and former resident of Abbeville County, South Carolina.

  4. Robert
  5. Wilson

Some of his sons filled public offices.

Offices Held

William served for a long term of years as justice of the peace.
